Secretary- Helen Kuhns

Helen W. Kuhns, community and business program coordinator with watershed group Lynnhaven River NOW, has worked as an informal educator and executive director in conservation-based nonprofits throughout a 25+ year career in environmental education. I sit currently as Secretary on the founding Executive Board of the Virginia Association for Environmental Education and wish to continue the work and vision that inspired the creation of VAEE by running for a second term as Secretary. With the growth of membership, the expansion of scope, and the growing momentum of regional team representation, if elected for a second term, I will look towards a future working with the rising Chair and Vice Chair and the incoming Treasurer-elect to further develop operating procedures, explore funding opportunities and grow VAEE to its full potential as a platform for environmental education professionals to learn, communicate and develop a unified voice and message across the Commonwealth.

Nominee for Treasurer-Elect - Greg Eaton

Dr. Greg Eaton, Director of Claytor Nature Study Center, and Professor of Biology and Environmental Science at Lynchburg College, current Founding Chair of Virginia Association for Environmental Education. I am running for Treasurer-elect of VAEE for my second term on the VAEE Board of Directors.  I wish to continue the great work that Lisa Behm has provided as Founding Treasurer to our organization.  During my service as Treasurer I would like to standardize our annual reporting to the Virginia State Corporation Commission, and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.  This will allow a more streamlined process for these tasks for future Treasurers.  I want to establish a robust accounting regimen using software designed for a non-profit such as ours.  I want to establish a routine annual internal audit procedure, and investigate the costs and benefits of external audits. I want to pursue grants for our organization’s activities as appropriate, and seek robust sponsorships for activities and initiatives appropriate to our mission, with the guidance of the Board of Directors and individual Members.

The Virginia Association for Environmental Education is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
